Ruth Harris
B.A, LLB
Ruth Harris is a founding director of O’Connor Harris and Co Solicitors and has held this position for over 40 years. Ruth studied at the Australian National University, graduating with bachelor’s degrees in Arts and Law in 1979.
Ruth specialises in property law and has extensive experience and knowledge in conveyancing matters for private and commercial property in both the ACT and NSW. In addition, Ruth advises clients in relations to Land Development, Subdivisions and Strata, Unit and Community Title in both ACT and NSW developments.
Ruth enjoys working in conveyancing and is exceedingly proud of the energetic, competent and dedicated staff that has allowed O’Connor Harris to become one of the leading conveyancing firms in Canberra.
The scale and breadth of Ruth’s property law work and residential conveyancing work extends from straight forward residential sale or purchases, acting for first homeowners, purchases off the plan, foreign investment work, refinancing and family transfers to complex multimillion-dollar property developments.
Ruth has been engaged on numerous loan transactions for either the lender or the borrower. Often those transactions included the giving or taking of security, such as a mortgage over land, a lease of business equipment or a charge over a company.
She particularly enjoys guiding first home buyers through the process of buying their first home, which sets them on the path to independence, security and wealth creation.
Ruth was, for many years, a member of Property Law Committee of ACT Law Society.
Out of the office Ruth is a dedicated mother of six children and grandmother of thirteen. Ruth enjoys spending time with her family as well as reading, sewing, gardening and playing golf.
